Amazing Love

The Passion of The Christ. Who has seen this? Who found themselves yelling at the TV trying to keep Jesus from being hurt? Who sobbed through the entire movie? Me. My family watched it when it first came out and I just couldn't. Not that I don't love Jesus and want to dig deeper into His story, but emotionally I don't handle things well. I promised myself that I'd watch it someday. Alone.

Yesterday, I put Collins down for his afternoon nap and was drawn to flip through the channels. Trent's been gone this week and I've been so lonely. I haven't been by myself really at all, but I just miss him. So, I went to go lay down on the couch to find something good and maybe funny to watch. Wasn't really planning on finding a sad show or movie, but my heart couldn't flip the channel. The Passion of The Christ!! I watched the last half of the movie, crying, sobbing, and putting the blanket over my eyes. I kept thinking, "Why in the world would they show the nails being hammered into His hands?" We can't hide from the truth of the story. We can't skip over the incredible faith that Jesus had. Beating after beating. Nail after nail. Laugh after laugh. Our Savior. The ONLY one who never sinned! What pain he endured for me. For us. I can't wrap my hand around His love for me. It's too big. It's too much of a mystery. I'm just so thankful that I'll get to see him someday and give him the biggest hug. And thank him. Oh, the pain he endured for me. Wow.

I was fortunate to be able to sing this song a couple weeks ago at church. It's a strange feeling being up in front of your church with eyes looking back at you. But, that day...I didn't see any eyes. I didn't have any nerves. I just sang. Sang to Jesus. There are two different groups that sing this song and I like them both. "Amazing Love" by Hillsong and "You Are My King" by Chris Tomlin. Check it out. I promise you'll be singing it in your head all weekend.

I'm forgiven because you were forsaken
I'm accepted, You were condemned
I'm alive and well
Your spirit is within me
Because you died and rose again

I'm forgiven because you were forsaken
I'm accepted, you were condemned
I'm alive and well
Your spirit is within me
Because you died and rose again

Amazing love, how can it be?
That you, my king. would die for me
Amazing love, I know it's true
Its my joy to honor you
Amazing love how can it be?
That my king would die for me
Amazing love I know it's true
Its my joy to honor you
In all I do
I honor you

I'm forgiven because you were forsaken
I'm accepted, you were condemned
I'm alive and well
Your spirit is within me
Because you died and rose again

Amazing love how can it be
That you, my king would die for me
Amazing love, I know its true
It's my joy to honor you
Amazing love how can it be?
That you, my king, would die for me
Amazing love, I know its true
Its my joy to honor you
In all I do I honor you

You are my king
You are my king
Jesus, You are my king
Jesus, You are my king

Amazing love, how can it be?
That you, my king, would die for me
Amazing love, I know it's true
Its my joy to honor you
Amazing love, how can it be?
That you, my king would die for me
Amazing love I know it's true
Its my joy to honor you
In all I do I honor you
In all I do honor you

Happy, Happy Easter. I hope you know how much Jesus loves you!

  1. Wonderfully written, poignant post Maegan. The only thing that could have made it better would be a recording of you beautifully singing this song.

Easter blessings to you, Trent, and Collins!
    And the Rooke family too.

    Love, Amy F.
